There are five types of Membership with the Royal Canadian Legion:
To qualify for Ordinary Membership you must have served with the Canadian Armed Forces, an Allied Military Force, or the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and be over the age of 18.
To qualify for Associate Membership you must be the relative of someone who qualifies for Ordinary Membership and be over the age of 18.
To qualify for Affiliate Voting Membership you must be a Canadian or Commonwealth Citizen and over the age of 18.
To qualify for Affiliate Non-Voting Membership you must be a citizen of an Allied Nation and over the age of 18.
Life Membership with the Royal Canadian Legion is more than just a type of membership, it is an award for meritorious service to the Legion. The Branch may nominate someone if they meet they have previously received Legion awards and reached the below service milestone:
